(10) In a little over a year,
the carefree will shudder,
because the grape harvest will fail;
the vintage won’t arrive.

(11) Tremble, all of you who are at ease;
shudder, all of you who are secure!

Isaiah 32:10-11 (CEB)

Part 50 Recap Post

Part 100 Recap Post

Hello Readers, hope all’s well. Time for another End Times post.

Do you know that it’s a natural human tendency to ignore problems, or even pretend they don’t exist?? This goes especially for slow-moving, long-term problems. World problems that develop slowly over the course of years rather than days go unnoticed by most, because the signs of these issues aren’t so flashy and obvious.

Many people have a hard time thinking long-term. If it’s not right up in their face now, today, we have a hard time imagining it. This is a natural human limitation—we have a limited human perspective and not God’s omniscient perspective.

But if we choose to ignore the problems brewing over the long-term, we’ll be shocked when they finally blow up. At that point there’s no more denying or ignoring the issue, because it’s too late and the consequences are upon us.

Now of all the issues people today are ignoring, what could be more important than preparing for the Second Coming of Christ?? Many people live as if we’re not in the End Times right now, and Jesus is not right at the door. When Jesus Returns, a lot of people will be caught unaware and unready.

Isaiah 32 has a warning and a proclamation against those who are comfortable now. That comfort includes not only physical comfort, but also the mental and emotional comfort of pretending like the world is not about to End. But the LORD’s Judgment is coming and won’t be stopped. If you’re comfortable now … beware!! Because that comfort won’t last for long.

So let’s take a look at Isaiah 32 today and hear what the LORD is telling us.

If You’re Comfortable now … Beware!!

Although these days are hard times for many people, many others are comfortable. Too comfortable.

This comfort can take many forms. It could be the comfort of having money and being insulated from the economic difficulties we face. It could be literal, physical comfort like living in a nice home in a safe city or country with a good government. It could be the mental comfort of not having to think or worry about the imminent disasters of the impending chaos coming to this world.

I wrote about that impending chaos in the previous End Times post, Part 127. Check it out with the link above.

Well, they say ‘ignorance is bliss.’ But the bliss that comes from ignorance is false and self-harming. We don’t gain anything by ignoring problems or pretending they don’t exist. That ‘bliss’ will turn out to be short-lived once the problems we tried to ignore appear in the form of inescapable consequences.

Chaos, pandemonium, is coming whether we like it or not and no matter what we try to do. It’s a natural human tendency to want to ignore catastrophic crises like that. That’s why a lot of people refuse to even think about it, and go about their lives as if their world will never go crazy. Their comfort comes from not thinking about the danger, which isn’t comfortable to think about. But we need to be uncomfortable and face reality. The world crisis is coming, and pretending it’s not isn’t going to stop it.

But enough of that—let’s turn to Scripture. More and more I’m realizing that there’s a Scripture verse for every situation. Surprise, surprise, Scripture has something to say about this too!!

Isaiah 32 specifically calls out these comfortable people. Isaiah 32 is aimed right at them, warning them that their comfort is short-lived. Everyone’s comfort is short-lived. The LORD’s Judgment is coming no matter who’s ready … or not. Many people are comfortable now, but they won’t be much longer. Let’s read Isaiah 32:9-14.

(9) Women of leisure, stand up! Hear my voice!
Carefree daughters, listen to my word!
(10) In a little over a year,
the carefree will shudder,
because the grape harvest will fail;
the vintage won’t arrive.

(11) Tremble, all of you who are at ease;
shudder, all of you who are secure!

Strip yourselves, bare your skin,
and tie mourning clothes around your waist,
(12) beating your breasts for the pleasant fields,
for the fruitful vine,
(13) for my people’s soil
growing barbs and thorns,
for all the joyous houses
in the jubilant town.
(14) The palace will be deserted,
the crowded city abandoned.
Stronghold and watchtower
will become empty fields forever,

suited for the pleasure of wild donkeys,
and a pasture for flocks—

Isaiah 32:9-14 (CEB)

Everyone who lives their life thinking everything’s going to be cool forever, they must prepare to be shocked!! Isaiah 32 is specifically calling out everyone who feels comfortable and carefree. Comfortable and carefree are the deliberate choice of words (in translation, of course).

Verse 10 says “the grape harvest will fail.” That means it will fail for everyone, the comfortable and uncomfortable alike. Calamity is coming to everyone, comfortable and uncomfortable all together. The only difference is, those who are comfortable and ignoring the problem right now will be shocked and taken by surprise. But those who acknowledge what’s coming can turn to God now, while there’s still time.

Remember that the “bliss” that comes from ignorance is false. We don’t gain anything by pretending there is no problem. Be smart, acknowledge the signs of the End, and turn to God today while there’s still time!! Anyone who sticks their head in the sand, as they say, will be shocked and dismayed when the disaster they ignored so long appears. Don’t get caught unaware.
