Thousands of years later, we all know that when we preach about the impending Second Coming of Christ and End of this fallen world, we mostly get the same kind of response. People of all stripes, Christians and non-Christians alike, they don’t want to believe it. They don’t want to even think about the impending doom and destruction—and this is a 100% natural human tendency, by the way. It’s a fundamental part of human psychology to want to be comfortable. And pondering the death, destruction, and chaos of the End Times makes people extremely uncomfortable.
Hello Readers, hope all’s well. Time for another End Times post.
We all know God’s Word is Alive, and speaks to us. Not long ago something in Scripture jumped out at me as I was doing my regular morning Bible reading plan. (Bible in One Year 2021 on the Bible App.)
And what I took from this passage was a message as simple as it is important: The End Times are now. The prophecies for the End aren’t meant for some later time in the future, they’re happening now.
This is something everyone, Christian and non-Christian alike, needs to understand. This world is ending now, not some other era in the future, but now. Are you ready??
It’s a message that tags along with what I wrote in Part 123, a post entitled Don’t Bother. You may want to check out that post too.
Well, let’s turn to Scripture to see what I’m talking about. Today we’re looking at Ezekiel 12.
An Uncomfortable Truth
In Ezekiel 12, Israel responds to the prophecy of Ezekiel. They reject what God says through Ezekiel. They brush it off by saying Ezekiel’s prophecy won’t come true in their lifetime. They say it’s a prophecy for some other time, in the future.
How convenient to ignore a message from the LORD, because you don’t like it and it makes you uncomfortable. Israel’s response to Ezekiel was “we don’t care, we won’t worry about that. Leave us alone because we want to live a comfortable life of pleasure-seeking. Don’t bother us with pesky warnings of the LORD’s Judgment.” This was Israel’s response because they wanted to continue in their ways rather than change their ways and turn to God.
Well, anyone who has Wisdom will accept the message and be OK with being uncomfortable. They can pray on it and test the Spirit of these warnings using Scripture. But once they’ve tested the warning enough to accept that it’s true, then they heed the message even though it’s uncomfortable. This is what people with Wisdom will do. Such people know that we can’t live our whole lives trying to be comfortable, which includes mental comfort. Fully mature adults are able to consider possibilities that make them uncomfortable.
Not later; NOW
Anyway, back to the point. The LORD speaks to us every day through His Word, which is Alive. And in Ezekiel 12 He says the “days are coming soon for the fulfillment of every vision. It will happen and be delayed no longer.” In other words, every prophecy will be fulfilled soon enough; no more delays. The End isn’t coming soon—The End Is Now.
(21) The LORD’s word came to me: (22) Human one, what is this proverb of your people concerning Israel’s fertile land? They say, “The days go by, and every vision vanishes.” (23) Therefore, say to them, The LORD God proclaims: I’ll put an end to this proverb! It will never again be uttered in Israel. Tell them instead: The days are coming soon for the fulfillment of every vision. (24) Never again will there be any worthless vision or deceptive divination in the house of Israel. (25) I am the LORD! The word that I speak is the word that I will speak! It will happen and be delayed no longer. In your own days, household of rebels, I speak a word and make it happen. This is what the LORD God says!
Ezekiel 12:21-25 (CEB)
Once again, Israel responds that the prophecy is for some later time. And once again, the LORD makes it clear the prophecy is imminent and will not be delayed. Everything God revealed and declared will happen. This is a message for now, not later.
(26) The LORD’s word came to me: (27) Human one, the house of Israel is now saying, “The vision that he sees is for distant days; he prophesies about future times.” (28) Therefore, say to them, The LORD God proclaims: It will be delayed no longer. Every word of mine that I’ve spoken is certain, and it will happen. This is what the LORD God says.
Ezekiel 12:26-28 (CEB)
Heed the Warning
So what’s the takeaway from this??
The takeaway from this is that we need to heed this warning. Time’s up!! This is it!! And that’s OK.
It’s OK because this fallen world must be destroyed before God will redeem the situation with His New, Perfect World. And it’s also OK because all we need to do to prepare for the End … all we can do … is to REPENT!! of our sins and turn to Jesus now!! Today!! There’s no more time left!!
It’s time to confess our sins and come out of them; it’s time to follow Jesus with our full devotion. We have the Promise of the Gospel, God’s Promise, that if we have our full Faith in Jesus, accept Him as our Messiah and Savior and believe in His Forgiveness of our sins (as well as believe that God cares for us enough to do this for us), then we are Saved.
There’s no avoiding our painful physical death, which is probably not too far away. But this isn’t a problem if we have our Faith in Jesus. Thanks to Him, even death has lost its sting (1 Corinthians 15:55) because we know we can now enjoy Eternal Life.
But first, we have to believe what God is telling us and heed His warnings. And that means overcoming our natural human tendency to ignore impending disaster because of mental discomfort. It’s time to turn to God now while we still have a chance!!
