(1) So every single one of you who judge others is without any excuse. You condemn yourself when you judge another person because the one who is judging is doing the same things.
Romans 2:1 (CEB)
Hello Readers, hope all’s well. Time for another post.
Very recently on this blog, I was on vacation. And I was writing shorter posts. Now I will once again be writing shorter posts, much shorter posts, for about a month. I’m not on vacation, but I am currently unable to devote the same amount of time to this blog as I usually am. And this will continue for about a month.
I write these blog posts about a month in advance. at the time of this writing, I have returned from that vacation I was talking about. But I have a project going on that can’t wait, will only last until the end of August, and I only have a chance to do it during this time. There’s a group of missionaries in town and they’re building a mission camp in my area. Every day I go help them get the place ready. And I can only do this during my usual writing time.
So I have to make choices, and something has to get sacrificed because I don’t have enough time in the day. And until the end of August, what gets sacrificed will be my blog.
In place of my normal posts, I’ll be writing #shorts, something I see other bloggers doing a lot. So I’m going to try my hand at it too. For the next month at least, what you can expect from my blog will be short little tidbits, a brief message or a quote or a Scripture passage. I hope you will find something valuable in them.
So let’s get to today’s tidbit.
You Condemn Yourself
Have you ever heard that whatever bothers or annoys us in another person is something that God is trying to tell us about ourselves?? In other words, the flaws and shortcomings of another person (things which everyone suffers from) bother us so much because we are guilty of the same thing.
Well, this is another one of those cases where Scripture said it first. Paul said it in Romans chapter 2. He says you condemn yourself when you judge another person because the one who is judging is doing the same things. Let’s read:
(1) So every single one of you who judge others is without any excuse. You condemn yourself when you judge another person because the one who is judging is doing the same things. (2) We know that God’s judgment agrees with the truth, and his judgment is against those who do these kinds of things. (3) If you judge those who do these kinds of things while you do the same things yourself, think about this: Do you believe that you will escape God’s judgment? (4) Or do you have contempt for the riches of God’s generosity, tolerance, and patience? Don’t you realize that God’s kindness is supposed to lead you to change your heart and life?
Romans 2:1-4 (CEB)
Don’t judge: a simple New Testament message we all forget sometimes. But we would do well to be better at remembering it. We all fall to the temptation of judging sometimes, and we all have our pet peeves that annoy us greatly. but we need to forgive these, because we are guilty of the same things, and look at verse four in particular.
Are we going to have contempt for the riches of God’s generosity, tolerance, and patience?? We’re supposed to forgive everyone, like God forgives us. And if we’re dealing with other Christians who annoy us somehow, we know God forgives them for their flaws and shortcomings and loves them unconditionally. So we must do the same, without focusing on whatever flaws of theirs cause us grief.
God forgives these people for whatever their flaws and shortcomings are, if they have their Faith in God and the Sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. So how can we be unforgiving in that case??
From now on, when other people annoy us, we should use that as a chance for self reflection, and see what it is that we could be guilty of. Instead of seeing an annoyance, we can view it as a kind of mirror, and try to see what we can learn. It’s just an idea, just something to think about.
So that’s it for #shorts #1. Stay tuned for more #shorts all this month.
