Hello Readers, hope all’s well. Time for another Wednesday Do Not Fear the End Times post. Today I’m writing about the antichrist. Specifically, I’m writing about how we talk about the antichrist.
Politics Is (even more) Pointless now
I have two Facebook accounts, one for my blog and writing, and one personal. On my blog and writing account I joined a bunch of End Times Christianity groups, as you can imagine. I wasn’t sure what to expect when joining these groups, but I’d say I’ve been disappointed by the quality of posts I see.
I have seen some insightful posts on End Times topics that made me think. But most of what I see isn’t like that. I’ve seen a lot of fearmongering and a lot of false prophecy. Baal-inspired false prophecies that never happen. Lots of pointless finger-pointing. And post after post about Democrats, Democrats, Democrats.
The amount of posts attacking Democrats makes me wonder. Do these posters think they can stop the End Times by fighting Democrats? If they do think so, they’re wrong of course. As I often say, God’s plans can’t be changed, stopped, delayed, and so on. There’s no one we can fight to stop The End from happening, because The End is God’s will. Fighting human enemies only adds to the chaos and destruction here on earth. Remember Ephesians 6:12! I wrote a whole post about this topic recently, you can read it here.
I think it’s time for me to start advertising my blog in these groups, don’t you? Because I don’t like to see all the fearmongering and judging I see right now. My message of Do Not Fear the End Times is an important one. Do Not Fear, and don’t judge others so much either. REPENT, and focus on turning to Jesus to strengthen your own faith. These things are what’s important right now. But most importantly there’s no need to fear, so don’t make others afraid. That serves no righteous purpose, but does serve the devil’s purposes.
Anyway, there’s one topic of post I’ve seen over and over that makes me shake my head. And that would be the posts accusing this or that person as the antichrist.
Who’s Going to Be the Antichrist next?
Barack Obama. Pope Francis. Most recently, Bill Gates. And many other characters too. What do all these people have in common? They’ve all been accused in End Times circles of being the antichrist. Who’s next? Who’s the next one who the internet will decide is the antichrist? Some people will suspect anyone with a little power of being the antichrist. Or in the case of Obama or Bill Gates, it seems that having a contrary opinion to theirs makes them the antichrist.
Now seriously, who’s next? Based on what I’ve seen so far, before long another person will get labeled the antichrist and people will jump on that bandwagon. When you mention this, the people defend themselves in different ways. They say “you need spiritual eyes to see it” and other things like that. Well I can see that some of you guys need to get your spiritual eyesight checked!
If you imagine and want to see the antichrist everywhere, he’s going to be everywhere. I said something similar about the Jezebel spirit in my Cast Down Jezebel miniseries. Balance is key here. Jesus Christ never said we should be obsessed with the devil, demons, the antichrist, or any evil. We need to identify and oppose them, yes, but we must not obsess over them. If we imagine them around every corner, then we’re going to find them everywhere. But they’ll be imagined threats.
In a way, constantly talking about the antichrist, Jezebel, or any other character increases their power and influence. At the very least they have influence over you if you talk about them all the time! So it’s not good to talk about them all the time.
On top of that, sometimes it’s clear that the people accusing someone of being the antichrist … don’t know a thing about the antichrist! Let’s clarify what that title means.
Who Is he?
There are two different types of antichrist for us to look out for. The spirit of the antichrist in 1 John 4:3, and the very specific man of lawlessness referenced in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12. Let’s look first at 1 John 4:3, with some more verses too for context.
(1) Dear friends, don’t believe every spirit. Test the spirits to see if they are from God because many false prophets have gone into the world. (2) This is how you know if a spirit comes from God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come as a human is from God, (3) and every spirit that doesn’t confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and is now already in the world.
1 John 4:1-3 (CEB)
So here we learn that there’s a spirit of the antichrist. This means the spirit of the antichrist can be in many people at once, like any demon. Anyone who believes heresies about Jesus Christ, like Mormons, for example, are extremely vulnerable to picking up this spirit of the antichrist due to their demonically-inspired beliefs. (I wrote a little about the Mormon doctrine on Jesus in the Previous Post and in Part 2.)
The way to identify this antichrist spirit is through the spiritual discernment of the Holy Spirit, of course. Never forget that principle of spiritual warfare. We rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit and nothing else.
But that being said, 1 John 4:3 does give us a red flag to look out for. When anyone (or any thing, because demons often do this to deceive) disputes both the humanity and divinity of Christ, the true doctrine of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ, then that is a big, bright red flag. That’s when we should be on high alert for the spirit of the antichrist, and be active in prayer to the Holy Spirit asking for confirmation. Disputing, adding to, or altering (etc.) the true doctrine of Jesus Christ is a huge red flag for the spirit of the antichrist.
The accusations of Bill Gates being the antichrist center around his comments on vaccines, and conspiracy theories stemming from them. The accusations hinge on whether vaccines are the mark of the beast or not (rather than RFID chips or something else). Bill Gates has not, as far as I know, made any comments about the divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ. Whether he has an antichrist spirit in him or not, I don’t know, but I do know that his comments about vaccines don’t tell us that!
Now let’s look at the very specific verses of 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12. This passage describes the “man of lawlessness” (the antichrist).
(2) We don’t want you to be easily confused in your mind or upset if you hear that the day of the Lord is already here, whether you hear it through some spirit, a message, or a letter supposedly from us. (3) Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way. That day won’t come unless the rebellion comes first and the person who is lawless is revealed, who is headed for destruction. (4) He is the opponent of every so-called god or object of worship and promotes himself over them. So he sits in God’s temple, displaying himself to show that he is God. (5) You remember that I used to tell you these things while I was with you, don’t you? (6) Now you know what holds him back so that he can be revealed when his time comes. (7) The hidden plan to live without any law is at work now, but it will be secret only until the one who is holding it back is out of the way. (8) Then the person who is lawless will be revealed. The Lord Jesus will destroy him with the breath from his mouth. When the Lord comes, his appearance will put an end to him. (9) When the person who is lawless comes, it will happen through Satan’s effort, with all kinds of fake power, signs, and wonders. (10) It will happen with every sort of wicked deception of those who are heading toward destruction because they have refused to love the truth that would allow them to be saved. (11) This is why God will send them an influence that will mislead them so that they will believe the lie. (12) The result will be that everyone will be judged who is not convinced by the truth but is happy with injustice.
2 Thessalonians 2:2-12 (CEB)
In verse 4 we see something specific and important. This is the main criteria for figuring out who the man of lawlessness is. This man is going to exalt himself above God (all gods/beliefs), he’s going to claim that he is God. He’s going to sit in God’s temple and exalt himself.
There are other things to know about the man of lawlessness, which we can see in the other verses here. But the main thing is that he’s going to sit in God’s temple and exalt himself above God. So that’s something very specific to watch out for.
Now it’s time to be honest. Has Bill Gates set up in God’s temple, exalting himself and demanding that we worship him as God? No, he definitely has not done that. You’re free to think whatever you like about him, but we have to face facts: He is not the man of lawlessness.
Here’s a little more info on the man of lawlessness from the Biblical question and answer site, GotQuestions.org:
The Antichrist is given the title “man of lawlessness” because he will oppose in every way the biblical God and His law. He will be completely lawless. Daniel 7 speaks of this man as a “boastful” king who will “try to change the set times and the laws” (verses 11 and 25). He will come offering a false peace to the world and will with his charismatic personality, incredible promises, and breathtaking miracles unite all nations politically, economically, and religiously under his leadership. At the same time, he will make a covenant with Israel for three and one-half years (cf. Daniel 9:27, where “seven” indicates seven years). In the middle of the seven years, the man of lawlessness will break his covenant with Israel, stop their sacrifices (Daniel 9:27), and enter the temple to set himself up as “god” and demand worship (2 Thessalonians 2:4). This is the “abomination that causes desolation” that Jesus spoke of in Mark 13:14.

The man of lawlessness hasn’t been revealed yet. There are some things that need to happen still. But learn about him now so you can recognize him when he appears. And be honest about who it is and what he does. If you’re being honest, then you’ll have to admit that Bill Gates isn’t the man of lawlessness. And if you’re reasonable, you’ll understand why it isn’t good to accuse so many people of being the antichrist.
Don’t Speak that name Lightly
There are other characters with a connection to the antichrist, such as the false prophet. If you like, you could keep the debate going about whether any world leaders meet the criteria to be that. It’s not a debate I’m interested in, myself, because I just follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit each day and that’s that.
But “the antichrist” is a label that we must not throw around lightly. It refers to someone very specific, so don’t accuse people wrongly, and don’t accuse everybody you disagree with. Don’t cry “antichrist.”
That’s the point I want to get across. If people throw the antichrist label around whenever a world leader says something they don’t agree with, then the label loses all meaning. People become used to hearing it. That’s called desensitization. They become desensitized to hearing it. Normally, if a Christian accuses someone of being the antichrist it should be shocking and steal everyone’s attention. But that’s not how it is anymore, because people use that antichrist label too lightly.
In closing, I’m going to quote the words of a post made in rebuttal to those calling Bill Gates the antichrist. These words are from a pastor named Kelvin Ugwu and they sum this up quite nicely.
In every generation, Christians always look for someone to name as the Antichrist. Are we not tired of this childish display of ignorance and lack of proper understanding of the scriptures?
At one time the title of Antichrist was given to Nero Caesar because they felt that his name in Greek when transliterated into Hebrew is equal to the number 666. When Emperor Nero died, his reign died. We started searching for another Antichrist.
At another time, the title was held by Hitler. But when Hitler died, they realised he couldn’t have been the Antichrist and they asked: “How could the Antichrist die without subjecting the whole world into ruin as the bible said he will?”
Then the search continued and still continues even to this present time…till who knows when. . .We found another, then another, and another. We are that shameless.
The roll call for those who have held the title of the Antichrist is actually long. In it, you will see Napoleon on the list, different Popes including Francis, Barrack Obama who was painted as having horns is also there, and at the moment, it appears Pope Francis and Obama have handed it over to Bill Gates. As you can see, Bill Gates has grown horns.
They forgot when they once said that Obama’s daughters; Malia and Natasha when spelt backwards will be AiLam AHsatan, and when you remove the word ALAH from the name, you will be left with “I am Satan”. With this, Obama was declared the Satan. Yet, the Satan has handed over to another and the new slogan is: The GATE of Hell shall not prevail. . . Matthew 16:18. (Referring to Bill Gates as the actual ‘gate’ the passage was talking about). Beautiful nonsense!
When are we going to get tired? When?
One minute we will shout that the Antichrist has come and that the world is coming to an end, the next minute the Antichrist is no more and we are back again in search of another and a new theory to lie to ourselves on why the world did not end as at the time we said it will…hmmmmm! And when you make any statement on this to teach people the right thing, you will find one brother or sister somewhere in the comment section who has not even said his prayers nor lived fully the life of love as Christ taught, coming to criticize you with words like “you need spiritual eyes to see what is happening.” Yet, with all his spiritual eyes, he woke up like every other person to the news of Coronavirus. He never saw it, and even as he walks around, he puts on face mask because he cannot still see who has the virus and who does not.
His post received a lot of hate, which is disappointing. Kelvin Ugwu is right! Don’t cry “antichrist.” If you do, people won’t listen when he finally shows up for real.
